Litigation judgment informed by business experience. Effective in the courtroom and the boardroom.

Matthew S. Miller is a Chicago trial lawyer representing founders, executives, owners, closely held businesses, and individuals in consequential disputes and sensitive legal matters.

“I began my career as a trial lawyer at Jenner & Block, representing clients in complex commercial litigation and gaining significant courtroom experience early in my career.”

I later practiced at litigation boutiques and moved into senior in-house and executive roles, including leading global litigation for a public company. Over the course of my career, I have been outside counsel, general counsel, senior executive, founder, employer, and client.

Litigation judgment informed by business experience. Effective in the courtroom and the boardroom.

I understand what a dispute looks like from inside a company and what it feels like when the issues are personal. I have advised boards and executives, managed outside counsel, made decisions about risk and strategy, and worked through disputes where careers, reputations, compensation, control, and enterprise value were at stake.

Litigation Boutique

I trained at Jenner & Block, where I represented clients in complex litigation and developed my foundation as a trial lawyer. I later practiced at litigation boutiques, handling commercial disputes and other high-stakes matters.

I have tried cases to judges and juries and obtained a record jury verdict in Mercer County, Illinois.

In 2011, I moved in-house, serving in senior legal and executive roles, leading global litigation for a public company, and guiding a company through an IPO. That experience now informs my representation of founders, executives, and businesses when important relationships break down or a dispute threatens something significant.
