My Background
​
An accomplished trial lawyer and business leader, I bring many years of experience to you. I trained at Jenner & Block, a premiere litigation firm based in Chicago, before working with a litigation boutique and eventually forming my own law firm.  In 2011, I was hired as Deputy General Counsel at Groupon, where I oversaw litigation, employment, IP, and international legal matters. I even spent a year living and working overseas. From there, I went on to serve as General Counsel for two publicly traded companies and a technology startup in Chicago.

In addition to my legal career, I've also launched and managed a startup, giving me a unique perspective into the world of law entrepreneurs as an entrepreneur myself.  I've seen issues from all sides, something most lawyers cannot say.

 

As a trial lawyer, I have represented individuals, small businesses, and Fortune 100 companies. I've tried cases in state and federal courts, including a record-setting verdict in a wrongful death case in Mercer County, Illinois. I have experience representing plaintiffs in personal injury, vehicular accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, insurance coverage disputes, and wrongful death claims.

 

As a business lawyer, I've built and led legal teams domestically and abroad and managed multi-million dollar budgets. I've advised public and private companies in the technology, AI, consumer goods, real estate, telecommunications, healthcare, transportation, and pet products sectors.

Matt has served on the Boards of the John Howard Association and Christopher House, volunteered at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, and volunteered as a soccer coach at Lincoln Park High School. A recognized thought leader and respected professional, Matt has cultivated a vast network of legal and business leaders, and he’s often sought out for his guidance and insights. His work has earned prestigious accolades, including being named a Rising Star by Illinois Law & Politics and a 40 Under 40 honoree by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. In law school, Matt won the national championship of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers National Trial Competition.
