Chief Justice Roberts has done it again. He's decided a case based on the law as he understands it, not based on anyone's political ideologies. Today, CJ Roberts voted with the majority opinion to block a controversial--and now, unlawfully (fortunately)--abortion law in Louisiana. I am sure this has his conservative backers steaming mad. I am surprised we have not yet seen any tweets about how disappointed certain politicians might be, but you see, the thing is, that is not at all relevant. Justices of the Supreme Court do not carry the water for the politicians who nominated or supported them. Even if the Justices might align with one party or another when it comes to political views, I believe in our legal system, and I have always believed that the Justices do their best to do their jobs: judge, not politic. We have seen excellent examples of this in recent days, with the opinion on LGBTQ rights and DACA. And we will see it again. This is how the system works. No matter who you nominate, at the end of the day, they will work hard to make the best decisions they can, based on the law as they understand it. In my view, Chief Justice Roberts--feared by progressives as a puppet of the right--has done historic work to uphold the laws and maintain dignity for the Court. To the surprise of many, he is building a legacy that appears destined for greatness. No, I do not always agree with his opinions, and I do not share his political views, but it is plainly evident that he is no one's errand runner, and his Court will not be ruled by politics. To this I say: Bravo.
Justices are not politicians
